Finding skilled admins today is a challenge, more than 75% of HR professionals reported in a recent OfficeTeam survey.

Think about that if you ever hear someone say you’re “just” a secretary!

So what skills are they looking for?  Here are the big three:

Initiative and experience: Specific skills range from organizational, managerial to technical.  Furthermore, the biggest plus?  Being highly motivated and proactive.

Don’t forget attitude

  • Technical savvy: We can’t stress it enough: The more proficient you are at Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel, the higher your value.
  • Soft skills: Strong verbal and written skills – plus a positive attitude – go a long way.
